Abstract
The life of the Buddha and his teachings provide a great example for Buddhist educational philosophy which emphasizes the aspects of ethical conduct (Sīla), concentration (Samādhi), wisdom (Paññā), and self-transformation. This study discusses the Buddha as a great teacher whose educational methods were directed toward the holistic development of individuals and society. Although Buddhist teachings ultimately aim at Nibbāna, the Buddha emphasized that through self-development together with the support of society, individuals can overcome barriers and achieve meaningful human goals in Buddhist education philosophy. This article is based on a qualitative analysis of selected discourses from the Sutta Piṭaka, focusing on the Buddha's pedagogical approaches, ethical guidance, and practical instruction. The study highlights how the teaching approach of the Buddha was adapted in accordance with the intellectual capabilities and need for transformation of the learners. The study will emphasize the applicability of Buddhist education in today's moral and social context.
